I. General aspects
1. What is BT Pay
BT PAY is a secure Mobile Banking application, accessible from a mobile phone with an internet connection. The BT Pay application can be downloaded from the App Store, Google Play Store or Huawei App Gallery.
To use the BT Pay features, you must already have a contractual relationship with BT (a current account opened with the bank) or start opening a contractual relationship with BT directly through the BT Pay application.
2. Opening the contractual relationship with BT through the BT Pay application
Individuals of legal age, with tax residence in Italy, who do not yet have an account relationship with the Bank, can apply to become clients holding a current account through the BT Pay application.
The process of opening the relationship through BT Pay is entirely online, carried out remotely, and its final result is the identification of the client (application of customer due diligence measures in accordance with the provisions of the law), the opening of a current account, the issuing of a debit card and access to the BT Pay mobile application in order to carry out transactions.
Once the application procedure has been completed, the user will receive a notification inside the application containing the outcome of the application submitted.
3.Logging in to BT Pay
The application can only be used if the phone is protected by a password, a fingerprint or another security method offered by the device. When you register in BT Pay, a check is made as to whether the phone is protected. In addition, at each subsequent log-in to the application, the presence of an active security system on the device is checked.
After the identification process, the user must set a security code (PIN code) for BT Pay, which will be used to authenticate and authorise transactions in the application. The user can continue to use the phone's security method to make payments with BT Pay at merchants without having to log in to the application directly (if they have activated the payment mode based on unlocking the phone). If the user has activated the device unlocking function using biometric data (e.g. Face ID, fingerprint), after defining the security code they will be allowed to activate the use of the biometric data saved on the phone.
The client can change the security code from the “Application settings” section, in the “Security” menu. If they have forgotten the security code, they can select the “Have you forgotten your PIN code?” option, and will automatically be redirected to the identity verification process (acceptance of the processing of personal data and taking a self-portrait/selfie in order to validate identity). Once the identity verification process has been successfully completed, a new security code can be set.
To ensure the security of the Service, after 5 incorrect log-in attempts, the Internet Banking service will be blocked. In order to log in to the application again, the user will be asked to complete the identification once more, including taking a selfie necessary for recognition.
If the application is reinstalled, the user must use the PIN code together with the other elements required, in accordance with the strong customer authentication procedure applied by the bank, as defined by the legislation in force on payment services.
II. Registration in BT Pay of the payment card issued by the Italy branch of Banca Transilvania (hereinafter also referred to, for brevity, as “BT Italia”)
1. How do you add a card issued by BT Italia in BT Pay?
Users who have become clients of Banca Transilvania - Italy Branch directly through the BT Pay mobile app will see their EUR card issued instantly and activated in the app in digital form at the end of the registration process.
The digital card can be used in the app for all the transactions listed in Chapter III (Which transactions can you carry out with the card through BT Pay? - Cards section), with the exception of cash withdrawals from ATMs.
BT Italia clients who already have an active card can register it in the BT Pay app by entering the card details requested by the application.
For phones with the Android operating system and integrated NFC technology (“Near Field Communication”, that is, a short-range wireless communication technology), registering the card and validating it make it possible to assign a payment token (an alternative card number) to the card itself, associating it with the mobile device.
After registering the card in BT Pay, the user can add it directly through the BT Pay app to Google Pay (if using a phone with the Android operating system) or Apple Pay (for devices with the iOS operating system). In this case, the user is also subject to the General Conditions for the use of debit cards for individuals (including Google Pay and Apple Pay), which form an integral part of the Current Account and Ancillary Services Agreement for Consumers.
2. How do you activate the physical card?
When you receive the physical card by courier or at the Bank's Rome branch, you must activate it before you can use it. To do so, follow the steps below:
- Log in to BT Pay → select the option " Tap to activate the physical card " → click on "I have received the card" and authenticate the transaction with the application PIN or using biometric data (face recognition/fingerprint).
- You will receive an activation code by SMS from Banca Transilvania.
- To complete the activation, you must carry out one of the following transactions:
- Withdraw cash from any ATM (the transaction must be completed successfully).
- Make a payment at a merchant, inserting the card into the POS terminal and entering the activation code received by SMS.
Once activated, the physical card can also be used to withdraw money from ATMs/cash machines.
The digital card, on the other hand, will always be available for use, regardless of whether the physical card has been activated.
III. Which transactions can you carry out with the card through BT Pay?
1. Viewing the balance
The card balance represents the funds available for use (if there are amounts being settled - for example amounts blocked for card transactions or for account garnishments- these will affect the balance and will be taken into account).
2. Contactless payment with your phone
Payment with BT Pay – available for phones with the Android operating system

Registering the card in the BT Pay application involves assigning a payment token (an alternative card number) to the card in question, which will be associated with the mobile device.
The main payment card for NFC payments with BT Pay is the first card added in the app. If you want to change the main payment card, go to the Card settings and activate the corresponding option. The card set as the main one will be displayed in first position within the application.
Payment methods
From the Payment methods menu, you can choose the payment method you want:
- Unlock and pay – Unlock the phone and hold it close to the POS. This is the fastest payment method. The payment will be made with the main card, that is, the first one displayed in BT Pay.
- Payment only from BT Pay – Unlock the phone, log in to BT Pay, authenticate using the app's authentication method (PIN or biometric data) and hold the phone close to the POS. The payment will be made with the card displayed in the app.
To pay with BT Pay, we recommend that you have an internet connection. However, you can also carry out up to 5 transactions without an internet connection.
Payments by phone can be made in any shop equipped with a contactless POS.
Setting BT Pay as the default payment application
When you install BT Pay, you will be asked whether you want to set it as the default application for payments. If you confirm the option using the "Replace" button, BT Pay will become the main application for payments. If you do not confirm, payments will be made through the default application set on the phone.
Payments made with BT Pay at POS terminals and merchants involve no fees.
Payment with Google Pay – available for phones with the Android operating system
The user can add their card to Google Pay in two ways:
- Directly through the BT Pay app, by selecting the “Google Pay” button in the Card settings.
- Directly in Google Wallet, by manually entering the card details and authenticating through the BT Pay app or activating it through the BT Call Center.
The user is subject to the "General Conditions for the use of debit cards for individuals (including Google Pay and Apple Pay)", which form an integral part of the Current Account and Ancillary Services Agreement for Consumers.
Payments made through Google Pay at POS terminals and merchants involve no fees and can be carried out at any POS terminal that supports contactless payments.
Payment with Apple Pay – available for phones with the iOS operating system
The user can add their card to Apple Pay in two ways:
- Directly through the BT Pay app, by selecting the Apple Pay button in the Card settings.
- Directly in the Apple Pay wallet, by manually entering the card details/scanning the card and authenticating through the BT Pay app or activating it through the BT Call Center.
The user is subject to the "General Conditions for the use of debit cards for individuals (including Google Pay and Apple Pay)", which form an integral part of the Current Account and Ancillary Services Agreement for Consumers.
Using Apple Pay is free of charge. Payments can be made with an iPhone or Apple Watch in any shop equipped with a contactless POS terminal, in mobile apps and in Safari, where Apple Pay is accepted as a payment option.
Payments with Apple Pay must be confirmed using the phone unlocking method (password, fingerprint, Face ID).
Limits for contactless payments (BT Pay, Google Pay, Apple Pay)
The payment limits at merchants, set on the digital or physical cards, apply.
In order to make payments with your phone, the NFC function must be activated in the phone settings.
3. Transfers based on the phone number
By going to the “Transfer money” option on the app homepage → Cards section, the user can:
- Send or request fund transfers in EUR.
- Send Lei based on the phone number.
3.1. Sending money (EUR) via phone number
You can send EUR through BT Pay to another BT client who is an individual, by following these steps:
- Select the transfer option, that is, "Send EUR ".
- Select the recipient from the phone's address book.
- Enter the amount to be sent and the transaction details.
- Confirm the transaction, accepting any bank fee applied.
- Authorise the transaction by entering the PIN or using biometrics.
The recipient (who is also a Banca Transilvania client) will receive an SMS notification with the amount awaiting crediting. The SMS will be sent to the selected phone number and will contain a link which:
- If the recipient already uses BT Pay, the app will open the transfer directly, with the transaction details.
- If the recipient does not use BT Pay, the link will redirect them to the App Store/Google Play/Huawei App Gallery, in order to download the application. Once it has been installed and registration has been completed, the link will open the transaction and the recipient will be able to view its details.
The recipient will be able to:
- Accept the transaction, completing it and choosing the card on which to receive the funds.
- Let the transfer expire.
As the sender of the transaction, you will receive a notification on your phone in the event of:
- Failure by the recipient to install BT Pay, or if the recipient is not a Banca Transilvania client. In this case, the transfer will expire after 48 hours and the amount will be credited back to your account.
- Cancellation of the transaction by you, which is possible up until the recipient has accepted it.
If you use transfers by phone number, you can set a main card for receiving the funds, directly from the Card settings. This option allows the funds to be credited automatically to the selected card, without the need to open the SMS link and press Accept the money.
3.2. Requesting money (EUR) via phone number
To request money from a contact in your address book, or by entering the phone number manually, follow these steps:
- Select the "Request EUR " option from the "Transfer money" menu and choose from the address book the contact from whom you want to receive funds.
- Enter the amount requested and the details of the request.
- Give your consent to the transaction, accepting any bank fee applied, and confirm the transaction.
- Authorise the transaction by entering the app PIN or using biometrics.
The payer (who is also a Banca Transilvania client) will receive an SMS notification with the amount awaiting payment. The SMS will be sent to the selected phone number and will contain a link which:
- If the payer already uses BT Pay (the app is installed on the phone), it will open the transfer transaction directly in the dedicated section of the app. The user will be able to view the transaction details directly on the dedicated screen.
- If the payer does not use BT Pay (and the app is therefore not installed on the phone), the link contained in the SMS will redirect them to the App Store, Google Play or Huawei App Gallery, from where they can download the app. After installing the app and completing registration and the association of the cards, opening the link will open the transfer transaction and the payer will be able to view the transaction details.
The payer has the following options:
- Accept the transaction, completing the payment.
- Let the payment request expire.
- Reject the payment request, stating the reason for the rejection.
As the beneficiary and the requester of the transfer, you will receive a notification about the action taken by the payer.
If the payer does not successfully install BT Pay or is not a Banca Transilvania client (and therefore cannot use the BT Pay app), the transaction will not be carried out and the transfer request will automatically expire after 48 hours.
3.3. Sending RON via phone number
When making a payment in Lei (RON) based on the phone number, two scenarios may occur:
- The user does not have a RON account – in this case, the opening of an account in Lei (RON) will be initiated, which must be approved by the user (including acceptance of the terms and conditions) by confirming with the PIN or biometrics. After the account has been opened, the user can fund it through a currency conversion from their EUR account and proceed with the transfer following the flow described below.
- The user already has a RON account – they will follow the transfer flow described below directly:
Select the transfer option, that is, "Send money".
Select the recipient from the phone's address book.
Enter the amount to be sent and the transaction details.
Confirm the transaction, accepting any bank fee applied.
Authorise the transaction by entering the PIN or using biometrics.
The recipient (who is also a Banca Transilvania client) will receive an SMS notification with the amount awaiting crediting. The SMS message is sent to the phone number you selected. The SMS will contain a link which:
- If the beneficiary uses the BT Pay app (the application is installed on the device associated with the phone number that received the SMS), the app will open the transfer directly in the application menu. The user will be able to view the transaction details directly on the dedicated screen.
- If the beneficiary does not use the BT Pay app (and the application is therefore not installed on the phone), the link received by SMS will redirect them to the App Store, Google Play or Huawei App Gallery, from where they can download the app. After installing the app and completing registration and the association of the cards, opening the link will open the transfer transaction and the beneficiary will be able to view the transaction details.
The recipient can:
- Accept the transaction, completing the banking transaction (crediting). In this case, the user will select the card on which they want to receive the amount.
- Let the transfer expire.
As the sender of the transaction (the payer), you will receive a notification on the phone from which you initiated the transfer in the following cases:
- If the beneficiary does not correctly install the BT Pay app, is not a Banca Transilvania client (and therefore cannot use the BT Pay app) or does not open an account in RON currency (if the BT Italia client does not have a RON account, they will be guided to open one by accepting the Terms and Conditions for opening the RON account and confirming with the PIN code/biometrics), the payment transaction will not be carried out and the transfer will expire after 48 hours, at which point the amount will be credited back to your account.
- If you want to cancel the transaction, you can do so before the beneficiary accepts it.
In the case of transfers based on the phone number, the user has the option of setting a main card for crediting, directly from the card settings. This option allows the amounts to be credited automatically to the selected card, without the need to accept the funds manually by opening the link received by SMS and pressing the " “Accept the money " button.
3.4. Processing times, fees and transaction limits
Fund transfer processing times
Sending or requesting money to/from a person who has installed the BT Pay application – instant, after confirmation by the beneficiary/payer. This option is carried out on the basis of the phone number.
Fees for fund transfers based on the phone number
All money transfers made on the basis of the phone number are free of charge.
Amount limits for bank transfers
Yes, transfers based on the phone number, both for sending and for requesting money, are subject to daily limits for each card, according to the values indicated in the Summary Document of the international Visa debit card agreement, which forms an integral part of the Current Account and Ancillary Services Agreement for Consumers.
If you want to increase your daily/monthly limit, please contact us through the "Contacts" section in the application menu. In addition, for certain amounts, for security reasons, the user will need to be identified by means of a selfie.
3.5. Transaction history
In the transfers menu you will be able to view the transaction history, as well as the status of the transactions (accepted, rejected, expired).
4. Adding money to the BT Italia card
The user can top up their BT card in three ways:
- By IBAN bank transfer – You can top up the account linked to the card by making a bank transfer to the card's IBAN. The user can share their IBAN directly from the app.
- Topping up the account associated with the card at the cash desks of the BT Italia Branch – available only for accounts opened in euro. BT Italia does not accept cash deposits in Lei at the cash desk of the Rome Branch.
- Using another card of the user, issued by a third-party bank on the Visa, MasterCard or Maestro networks and enabled for the 3D Secure service. In this case, the user must manually enter the card details, that is, the card number, first and last name, expiry date and CVV code (the 3-digit code on the back of the card) and complete the 3D Secure authentication required by the issuing bank. The user can save non-BT cards in the application for future top-ups and has the option of deleting them from the app at any time. The user must enter the amount to be topped up and the transfer details and approve the transaction through 3D Secure, as required by the bank that issued the card. The user will be able to top up the card daily and monthly, within the limits indicated in the Summary Document of the international Visa debit card agreement, which forms an integral part of the Current Account and Ancillary Services Agreement for Consumers.
5. Transaction history
All completed transactions made with the physical or digital card will be displayed (payments at POS terminals, online payments, cash withdrawals from ATMs, payments through BT Pay based on the phone number). The user has the option of searching for a specific transaction using the "Search" function. In addition, the user can view expenses broken down by category, set transaction limits on the card and block/unblock the card directly from the app.
6. Viewing the card details
You can view the card details (card number, CVV, expiry date) directly from the application homepage or from Card settings – Card details. You have the option of copying the card number in order to enter it on the payment page when you make an online payment.
7. Authenticating online payments through BT Pay
You will be able to authenticate online transactions made with the BT card registered in the 3D Secure service from the BT Pay application. You will use the PIN set in the BT Pay app or one of the biometric elements (face recognition or fingerprint).
- How do you register a BT card in the 3D Secure BT Pay service?
After carrying out an online transaction on a website protected by the 3D Secure system, you will be asked to authorise or reject the payment. The payment authorisation/rejection message will display the following information: the card with which the transaction was initiated, the name of the merchant and the amount. You will be able to authorise the transaction using the application PIN or using biometrics. You will have 5 minutes to authorise or reject the transaction. Afterwards, you must return to the merchant's website in order to complete the order.
- ⚠️ Authorising the transaction is not the same as completing it. To make sure that the payment has been finalised, return to the merchant's page to check the status of the transaction.
- ⚠️ Make sure that general notifications are activated. You can check this in the Notifications – Notification settings menu.
- ⚠️ Registering the card in the 3D Secure BT Pay system means that online transactions are authorised exclusively through the application. You need to have internet access.
With your consent, the payment confirmation screen can be displayed automatically, without having to open the notification or the application, allowing you to confirm or cancel the payment using the app PIN or the phone unlocking method. This authorisation will be requested after the first confirmation of an online payment, or it can be set from the advanced settings of the phone, in the Applications – BT Pay section.
8. Card settings and Other options- By going to these options, you will have access to the following features:
- Main card for payments – an option available for phones with the Android operating system that allows you to set a card for contactless payments.
- Main card for crediting – the option of setting a main (default) card for the automatic crediting of transfers based on the phone number. For each crediting, you will receive a notification in the BT Pay app. In order to receive the notifications, the Activated option must be enabled in the general notification settings of the BT Pay app.
- Online payment approval – the option of viewing the online payment approval option and, if necessary, activating the card for the authentication of online payments through BT Pay.
- Change card name – the option of changing the card name displayed in the BT Pay app (this change applies only to the digital card shown in the app).
- Deleting the card – the option of deleting the card from the application. Deleting the card also entails its removal from the 3D Secure system, so it will no longer be possible to authorise online payments with BT Pay. Deleting the card from the app is not the same as blocking the physical card.
- Card details:
- Cardholder name;
- Card name;
- Last 4 digits of the physical card;
- Card number and CVV code;
- Card expiry date;
- Card currency;
- BT Swift code;
- IBAN account associated with the card. You can also share it through the messaging applications installed on your phone.
7. Card operating limits
The BT Pay application allows you to change the operating limits of the BT Italia cards registered in BT Pay and of the physical cards, within the limits indicated, where applicable, in the Summary Document of the international Visa debit card agreement, which forms an integral part of the Current Account and Ancillary Services Agreement for Consumers, or communicated in the application.
For each card, you will be able to set daily limits, within a maximum value established by the bank for the card, for a period defined by you, but not exceeding 90 days.
The limits that can be set through the BT Pay application concern:
- the number of online and offline transactions;
- the maximum amount that can be withdrawn from ATMs;
- card payments in shops;
- online payments with CVV;
- online payments without CVV.
How can you change these parameters? Select the card for which you want to make the changes, then press the "Card settings" button. The transaction limits set through the BT Pay application also affect the physical cards.
8. Blocking and unblocking the card
It allows the temporary and permanent blocking of the card, both the physical card and the digital one, as well as the unblocking of the physical and digital card (only if the card has been blocked temporarily).
9. Adding a card to Apple Pay/Google Pay
The user has the option of adding the card to the Google Pay or Apple Pay solution, depending on the operating system, either directly from the BT Pay application (by going to the "Add to GPay/Apple Pay" button in the Card settings), or directly in Google Wallet/Apple Wallet (by entering the card details and authenticating with the BT Pay app or activating it through the BT Call Center).
In this context, the user will be subject to the "General Conditions for the use of debit cards for individuals (including use through Google Pay and Apple Pay)", which form an integral part of the Current Account and Ancillary Services Agreement for Consumers.
10. Card benefits
The user can view the benefits associated with their BT Italia card directly from the BT Pay app.
11. IBAN sharing
The user has the option of sharing their IBAN through the messaging apps installed on their phone.
12. Cards saved with merchants (payments made directly with the cards and not through direct debit mandates on the bank account): you will be able to view both the websites on which you have saved the card details for future payments, storing this information in the form of a token, and the recurring payments associated with the card saved on the merchants' websites.
12.1. For how long can I view the transactions?
Through the "Card saved with merchants" feature, you will be able to view the payments made in the last 13 months.
12.2. How can I block future/recurring payments made with a card?
You can block these payments by going to the "Card saved with merchants" section and selecting the merchant for which you want to block future or recurring transactions.
⚠️ Important note: Blocking future transactions without deleting the card details from the merchant's website or application may result in future charges to your account and does not mean that the contract with the merchant has been terminated. To avoid unwanted charges, make sure you delete your details directly from the merchant's website or application.
9. Offers
The user can view exclusive offers dedicated to BT Italia clients and, in some cases, to family members. The details and conditions of each offer are available in the app.
IV. Which transactions can you carry out through BT Pay?

You can delete an account at any time using the " Remove this account" option in BT Pay. Afterwards, if you want to add it again, you can select the "+" option and add the account once more. Deleting the account from the application interface is not the same as closing the account itself.
For clients who registered with an identity card issued in Romania and who have accounts opened with Banca Transilvania Romania, access to the current accounts through the BT Pay app takes place in accordance with Romanian legislation and the contractual terms applicable in Romania.
The availability of the application in Italian does not change the law applicable to accounts opened in Romania and does not extend to those contractual relationships the contractual conditions applicable to current accounts opened with BT Italia.
